Food labelling for the future?

I recently was lucky enough to visit the Natural History Museum in Oxford on a day trip and it had a great exhibition, called “Meat the Future”. It looked at the impact of our food choices on the planet.

They had a demonstration of how environmentally damaging different foods can be. One really interesting exhibit had a prototype food labelling system that graded specific products according to their impact on the environment. It allowed you to put items you typically buy at a supermarket into a virtual basket and the computer calculated how environmentally friendly your food shop was.

When I’d filled my virtual shopping basket, I realised I was using a lot of dairy milk and this had a poor environmental rating. This made me think that I should consider buying more plant milks. So I’ve been researching this and l’ll discuss these next!
