how a dietician helped me
When my food issues were really causing problems, my family looked to dieticians to help.
At first, I was referred to an NHS dietician but they didn’t have much time and their advice was not specific for children with autism. So that didn’t help.
Later on, my family was lucky enough to find a dietician who was trialling very reasonably priced online group sessions for parents of children with special needs. She really knew what she was talking about and gave my family the confidence to keep going and to keep on trying new things.
Before then, we hadn’t realised the importance, in the UK, of the term “dietician”. These are qualified and regulated people and can be found via the Association of UK Dieticians’ website.
There are lots of other people out there who will give you nutritional advice, but I’d always go for a dietician because they have to study the science.
