food chaining - what is it?
It’s quite a simple, but powerful, concept, to help you choose new foods to try. The reasoning is that if you like a certain food, say chicken nuggets, then you might get to like something similar (maybe breaded escalopes or fish). Or if you eat one type of pasta, you might try another.
So what we did (or, rather, what my mum did) was draw a line down a piece of paper and write down all the things I ate in one column. In the other column, she thought about all the foods that might be similar to the foods I already ate.
To give an example, as I ate raisins, she thought about other dried fruit that were brownish, such as prunes. She also wrote down other similar dried fruit, such as cranberries. Then she offered small pieces of these to me, in a no pressure way at a time when we were feeling calm.
And that’s about it! There are books on this but I think that’s the concept in a nutshell. I made quite a bit of progress using this approach, over time (and with bumps on the way). Maybe give it a go?
